My Approach
My Approach to Psychotherapy
Experiencing traumatic or stressful events in childhood or adulthood can lead to shifts in your emotional life. Feeling fearful, sad, angry, or numb can become common. You might find yourself beset by intrusive concerns or memories, isolating from others and avoiding activities you value. It’s common for views on yourself and the world to change, making it easier to find fault with yourself, and harder to trust yourself or others. The world itself may become inhospitable and over time, the very idea of making progress may feel impossibly beyond reach. These feelings are a normal response to traumatic events, which despite their devestating impact, are a part of the human experience for many. You don’t have to navigate them alone.
As a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in traumatic stress, I understand how much trauma can destabilize your sense of safety, trust, control, self-esteem, and intimacy. Over the last ten years, I have been honored to know many on their recovery journey.
The journey of healing is often described as challenging, but also incredibly valuable. My approach to psychotherapy is tailored to each person and thus sensitive to your unique needs and strengths. In the work we undertake together, you will be in control and the process will be collaborative every step of the way. I use a combination of cognitive, behavioral, and humanistic approaches to explore possibilities that may at present feel unattainable. Having been trained with outstanding master clinicians at the San Diego VA and UCSD, I use evidence-based, first-line psychotherapies, recommended by the American Psychological Association and Department of Veteran Affairs because of their solid empirical support.
I have also been influenced by other therapeutic modalities and philosophies, including psychedelic therapy and non-Western healing practices of the Amazonian basin. These practices center processes of emotionally reckoning with the source of our pain and learning to embrace oneself and the preciousness of one's life with respect and love.
If you’re ready to take these steps forward, I welcome your message. You can easily contact me via the Contact link below for a brief consultation. I look forward to meeting you and joining with you to explore possibilities for the next stage of your life.
I am also trained in treating depression, anxiety, and sleep issues, and welcome inquiries from those facing modern day challenges of perceived inadequacy and stuckness.
